Long Live Roquefort

Jill Erber - owner of Cheesetique in Alexandria, Virginia - defends free trade by defiantly selling French Roquefort cheese at her cost. She does so to highlight a punitive tariff imposed as the Bush Administration was about to leave office.

Washingtonian’s 2009 Foodie In and Out List

Washingtonian Magazine’s Best Bites blog just listed their 2009 Foodie In and Out List. We note that “haute BLTs” and Cassoulet are in and truffled mac and cheese and “haute grilled cheese” are out. This will affirm the preferences of the other meat-bloggers, but I’m just hoping the Cheesetique’s bar doesn’t get wind of this silly idea and mess with their menu, because that would make me sad.

Meat!

The Cheesetique, our amazing local cheeseshop, has moved to a larger, posher space two doors down from their former digs. Driving by today I almost slammed on my brakes when I saw the sign that’s already been installed at the old store. It says “Meat” in large letters. On closer inspection, the store is apparently a butcher shop and the whole name, in smaller letters, is “Let’s Meat on the Avenue.”

I need to go take a picture.
